BIG MAN WALKING
29th May 2010

The Big Man Visits Dumfries!

Big Man Walking is part of Dumfries & Galloway Arts Festival, which takes place this year from 21 – 30 May.

A creature of legend, the Big Man arrived many thousands of years ago, when Scotland was a rough country of vast forests and wild beasts… He helped the people, cleared the land, carved inlets for fishing boats, and he chased the nightmare beasts from the forests. The Big Man created a land in which people could live and thrive. Then he was gone.

Now the Big Man is returning to visit our communities, in a celebration of what we have achieved in his absence. Dumfries is getting ready to welcome him…

The Big Man will parade through the streets of Dumfries, past the Midsteeple, past Robert Burns statue and along the Whitesands before making his way to Dock Park. Big Man Walking is an eight metre high giant operated by 12 puppeteers, but he will be accompanied by a cast of hundreds. Already there is talk of a Big Lady, who will welcome him to Dumfries, salsa dancers, an African drumming band, choirs, schools performances and even lullabies...
